Windows 7, requires much less fine-tuning than other previous Windows operating systems. However, That don’t mention, you can’t do nothing with Registry. Still, there are interesting features and customizable options which could be added by Registry options.
We will be talking about 10 useful changes with Registry on Windows 7. Now open “Start” menu and type “Regedit” in search box and press Enter.
1.Personalize Internet Explorer 8
Some pc manufacturers give their company name Internet Explorer 8 and other Windows 7 components or you want change IE 8′s visible name as your name etc. Let’s start, do some changes on Registry. Follow this path in Regedit “HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Software\Microsoft\ Internet Explorer\Main” and create new array value and give a name it as “Windows Title“. Double click to new created array and write what you want to see at your browser title.
2.Disable Aero Snap Feature
Windows 7′s Aero Snap feature sometime behave nonsensical and when you are moving window, it dock your window suddenly while you don’t want to dock window. How to disable Aero Snap ? Follow this path in Regedit “HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Control Panel\Desktop“. There are some options you can customize. Find “WindowArrangementActive” value in them and change it value to “0“.
3.Change to Task Combine Feature
If you dislike thumbnails which appears when you click on taskbar icons, you can change this to open last active window. Follow this path in Regedit “HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Advanced” and create new DWORD and named it as “LastActiveClick“. 4.Faster Taskbar Preview
If you want to taskbar preview show up more quickly when you hover your mouse on taskbar, follow this path in Regedit “‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” and create a new DWORD named as “ExtendedUIHoverTime“. Double click on it, select “Decimal” box and type the value what you want. Default is 400 ms.
5.Change Other Delay Settings
Possible to make some timing changes on “HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Advanced” path. Create new 32-bit DWORD value named it as “DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime“, select “Decimal” box and type the value you want. So you will be changed Aero Peek and Show Desktop timing values. Besides If you change “ThumbnailLivePreview HoverTime” value so you can set timing for when taskbar preview window open.
6.Speed Up Menu Openings
Follow this path in Regedit “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop” and right click “MenuShowDelay” select “Change”, type “100“.
7.Disable Free Disk Space Check Option
Follow this path in Regedit “HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer“, create new DWORD named it as “NoLowDiskSpaceChecks” and give it value “1“, now you disabled don’t enough free disk space warning messages.
8.Move “Windows 7 Core” to RAM
Normally Windows 7 core works on hard disk, however If we move it to RAM, it will work more speedly. Follow this path in Registry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management” adn find “DisablePagingExecutive” value and change it value to “1“.
9.Change Computer Owner Name
To change owner name Follow this path in Registry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\” and find “RegisteredOwner” and change it what you want.
10.Speed Up All Mouse Hover Process
If you want to little yellow tip boxes show quickly, follow this this path in Registry “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\Mouse” and find “MouseHoverTime” and change it value to “100“.
Important: Never change values to “0“, this will be cause system errors.
