Network Cabling Installation-Do we need Scaffold Training?

By Mike Stones

The man in the construction hat called , "Can you come down and talk to me?" This man could be one of authority therefore I obliged. I reached the surface from the second degree of the pipe scaffolding from where We were working on our new network cable install in around 10 seconds. The "man of authority" stated ," Could I check out your 4 hour scaffold user card?" "What?" I suppose was basically my answer. The Osha inspector said again, " I'd Like To check out your 4 hour scaffold user card?" I was thinking to myself, "I not sure just what exactly he's speaking about however I believe this may be a dilemma."

At this point ,, not surprisingly I did not possess a card to display. The guy peppered me with a handful of questions, jotted down quite a few notes and explained to me that we were banned from utilizing the scaffold till there was trained men on board. The following day the company was given a large penalty from the New york city Department of Buildings. At this point we had to act quickly to construct a four Hour Supported Scaffold User training class. We located a safety training firm that were happy to arrive on location and train us all. After the word got around a handful of the different companies working inquired if they can potentially train some people as well. Evidently we were not necessarily the only ones that weren't sure about the Scaffolding User training. The course occurred 3 days afterwards and several techs had been certified. It was way back in 2009. The certifications will run for 4 years time and then they can be restored. Who knows, in the future the laws could be totally different. Perhaps we will need 10 or perhaps twelve hours!

Just after performing some investigation I discovered, you aren't allowed on a scaffold in Ny city without having a 4 Hour Supported Scaffold User Card. Aside from that a person can't build a scaffolding in excess of forty feet without a 32 hour course on erecting and dismantling scaffold. Safe practices is certainly large in today's building area and for good reason. Would a person really want to jump on a 50' high scaffolding after someone constructed it that had little or possibly zero training on exactly how to assemble it? No Way!

An OSHA 10 certification is currently a must in addition on any construction job in Ny city. An individual won't in fact be let into the site without having certification. This particular training contains normal safety techniques on a work site. There is also a 30 hour OSHA lesson. This will likely become a need for all skilled contractors in the long run. Including your regular Id card you now have to hold the three ID's on you at the same time. There are also employees that will have no choice but to lug around more cards/certifications dependent on just what tasks you're undertaking.(for example.. plumbing related, burning, electric utility)

No matter whether you might be a beliver get your people qualified. It's for his or her individual security & doing the right thing for you and your crew. If you are going to generally be putting in a bid on new building projects typically you will require the cards. I am a supporter of well-being on building sites , no question. I actually got word at some point you'll see a lesson teaching you how to operate a ladder! If you can't manage a ladder you should be baking cookies or working from a desk(respect both jobs) though certainly not roaming a construction site.
